What does a completed job cost to win?

Measure marketing cost through booking, completion and payment. Add job costs to see what remains.

One campaign. One group of inquiries.

Follow the same inquiries through completion and payment, even across months. Keep the inquiry date range and report cutoff in your records.

Spend that generated this group of inquiries.

Assigned fees, creative, tools and marketing labor. Enter 0 if none.

Received requests. Remove spam and duplicate contacts.

Accepted work with a slot. An estimate visit is not a booked job.

Work delivered from those bookings.

Completed work with final payment received. Deposits do not count.

Count each once: awaiting a decision, work, or final payment. Enter 0 if all are closed.

Optional: what is left from completed work?

Use totals for only the completed jobs above. Revenue excludes sales tax and refunds. Direct costs include loaded labor, materials, subcontractors and job expenses. Include your own field labor at a realistic cost. Leave both blank if unknown.

What the work costs to win.

Enter your numbers or load the example, then calculate. You can save a private summary when you finish.

Start with records you already have.

Your ad report, request log and completed-job records are enough. Use a consistent rule for assigning each request to a source. That assigns credit; it does not prove the ad caused the job.

Questions.

What counts as a booked job?

Accepted work with a scheduled slot. An appointment to prepare an estimate is a separate step. Count cancellations in historical bookings, but only delivered work in completed jobs.

Can I use this for this month's jobs?

Use the inquiries generated by one campaign and its spend. Follow those same requests through completion and payment, even if they finish later. Record the inquiry date range, cutoff date and open requests. Do not mix this month's spend with unrelated jobs completed this month.

Does this calculate profit or tell me which ad channel to buy?

It shows historical attributed marketing costs. Optional revenue minus direct costs and marketing shows what remains before overhead, taxes and other costs. It is not net profit, cash flow, or a prediction. Compare similar jobs and mature campaigns, then check capacity before changing spend.
