Files & data

Explore a CSV file.

A searchable view of a spreadsheet export. Keep missing values separate from zero.

Draft guide · v0.1 · Content review: · Prompt test run pending

The project

Build a read-only browser view of a small CSV: rows, search, file-type filters and totals that preserve unknown values. The sample contains six fictional assets.

What you will need

  • An assistant that can read CSV and create HTML/JavaScript, plus a browser. A file-capable tool is helpful; pasted sample text also works.
  • The downloadable six-row CSV. It deliberately includes an unknown size, a zero-byte file and a repeated filename in different projects.
  • A safe copy of any real inventory you later use. File names and paths can reveal private projects; keep them local or anonymize them before sharing with an assistant.

What the sample should show

These are deterministic checks on the supplied fictional CSV, not a model's output or a snapshot of your computer.

  • 6 unique asset IDs; 5 known sizes total 654000 bytes.
  • 1 unknown size remains unknown; 1 zero-byte file is a known zero.
  • cover.jpg appears in two projects. A name match alone does not establish identical file contents.

Your next three steps

  1. 01

    Establish the expected answer

Open the sample as text first. Its six fictional rows have one blank size and one actual zero. Keep those cases distinct before trusting a summary.

  2. 02

    Build one read-only explorer

Try search, a kind filter and reset. Confirm all six IDs return. Add richer views only after the plain table and totals agree.

  3. 03

    Try controlled edge cases

In a scratch copy, use a quoted comma, an invalid size or HTML-looking text. Check that text stays text and malformed data receives an error. Keep the original sample unchanged.

Check what it made

  • The total includes only valid known sizes, with the unknown count shown beside it.
  • Search and filters do not modify the original rows; reset restores all six IDs.
  • Untrusted cell text cannot create HTML, execute a formula, trigger a request or become a filename operation.

Before using your own files

  • This is a small-file starting point, not a storage manager, duplicate-file detector or secure import pipeline for arbitrary large files.
  • The sample says nothing about the contents, safety or ownership of real files. Checking metadata is not a malware scan.
  • The exact kickoff prompt has not been evaluated in a separate model session. Review generated parsing and browser behavior before using real data.

What this guide is based on

Written by DIGITO with Codex. It follows our existing guides: supply the input, show an example and check the answer. BorderPulse also keeps missing data separate from zero. This sample inventory is made up; it is not from a private folder.

IDs, size total, unknown/zero counts and repeated-name example verified from the CSV by repository tests. No generated explorer or model trial is claimed.
